May 19, 2024 Pentecost Sunday – Mass during the Day
Come Holy Spirit Come! Fill the hearts of the faithful!
In the first reading, the Holy Spirit comes to the apostles in the upper room and they start speaking in tongues, in foreign languages they do not know. All hear and understand them. In the first option of the second reading, from 1Cor, we are one in the Spirit, in the second option, from Romans, we must live in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Living in the flesh is sinning against God and living in the Spirit has the following gifts:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control
In the first option of the gospel, from John 20, Jesus breathes on them and they receive the Holy Spirit. In the second option, from John 15 and 16, Jesus explains the trinity. He says He is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit will guide you by the truth of the Son who is all from the Father.
This concludes the Easter season. Jesus is still risen! He will come again! Amen! Alleluia!
