May 23, 2024 Thursday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time
Today’s first reading from James condemns the landowners, not because they were rich, but by the means that they became wealthy and how they were using their wealth for selfish reasons.
In the gospel, Jesus said that if you cause anyone to sin, it would be better if a millstone were around your neck and tossed into the sea. He goes on to say if your hand or foot cause you to sin, cut it off. If your eye causes you to sin pluck it out. Better than to have these parts and be thrown into the unquenchable fire of Gehenna.
Come Holy Spirit! Guide me away from sin! Amen!
