Today’s first reading: Moses declares to his people the first and greatest commandment, “you shall love the LORD, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. “ He also said we should fear the Lord and that is our purpose, follow the commandments. Jesus expanded on this in the gospel.

In the second reading, Paul described the high priests and that Jesus is now the “perfect” high priest. He brings souls to heaven, to His father.

In the gospel, a scribe asked what the greatest commandment is. Jesus replied with the first commandment, but He also added to love your neighbor as yourself. Love is also why we are here on earth. To love and be loved. Let us pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit daily to accomplish God’s mission for us. Amen!

Come Holy Spirit, be our guide this day and all of the days of our lives.
