May 20, 2024 Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church
Today’s first reading is from Genesis. The story of God’s punishment after Adam and Eve eat from the forbidden tree. Since we call Mary the second Eve, it is fitting to have this reading for her day.
Even in the psalm for today, it says, “One and all were born in her” Mary is our mother.
In the gospel, Jesus is on the cross talking to his mother and the one he loves. He says”Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother.”
This would be a great gospel for Mother’s Day. We should take care of our mothers and even in Jesus’ suffering and last moments before death, He was concerned for His mother. Amen!
Come Holy Spirit!
