In today’s first reading, Hezekiah is dying and he asks the Lord for mercy and God gives him 15 more years. Isaiah said the sign of God would be that the sun retreat, showing a smaller shadow. What a gift to be given more time!

In the gospel, the disciples are taking wheat from a field on the Sabbath which is considered work. Jesus tells the people “I say to you, something greater than the temple is here. If you knew what this meant, I desire mercy, not sacrifice, you would not have condemned these innocent men. For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath.” Be merciful as I am mercy. My commentary said to find a way to be merciful this weekend, perhaps to someone you have difficulty. I don’t have anyone in my life that needs my mercy. Thank the Lord!
