October 20, 2024 Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the first reading, Isaiah foretold the suffering of Jesus. He said that Jesus was pleased to suffer for our sins.
In the second reading, Paul told the Hebrews that Jesus knew of their struggles to avoid sin since he was tested, but without sin. He said “So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.”
In the gospel, James and John ask Jesus to sit one to His left and one to His right in His kingdom. Jesus said that was not His to give. Of course we know that Jesus sits at the right hand of God, His Father. Let us all show humility in the face of Jesus.
