February 16, 2024 Friday after Ash Wednesday
I heard yesterday that the days after Ash Wednesday until Sunday don’t count as Lent, but you still observe the “no meat” on Friday? Today’s readings discuss fasting and that people said to Jesus “Why don’t your followers fast?” He says a time will come for fasting after He is taken from them. What an exciting time they witnessed being in the presence of Jesus every day! And what grief they had when He was crucified! The response today with Psalm 51 refers to a contrite heart. I looked that up and one site says, A contrite heart or spirit is when a person’s inner man or will has been broken so they no longer run after the things they want, but surrender to the things that God wants. I want a contrite heart as well! Amen!
