March 24, 2024 Palm Sunday
Today’s entrance gospel was the story of Jesus returning to Jerusalem and people with palm branches waving them as He went by on a donkey. They were shouting Hosanna! Then we hear the readings that first prophecy Jesus’ passion and then Paul recalls Jesus’ passion and then the gospel is the very long account of the Triduum. Mark’s gospel this year recounting the woman who anointed Jesus, the last supper, the garden of Gethsemane, the betrayal of Judas, the betrayal of Peter, the scourging, the carrying of the cross, the crucifixion and the burial. We kneel after they read that He died at 3 pm that day. We always recount this story on Palm Sunday, I guess because most people don’t attend the three part mass starting with Holy Thursday. We will have this reading again on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. I received palms at church. I will keep them behind my crucifix in the front hallway.
