The Resurrection of the Lord
The Mass of Easter Day
Happy Easter! Our Lord has risen! Alleluia! In the first reading, Peter proclaims to the people in the book of Acts who Jesus was and that he died for our sins and rose from the dead and now judges the living and the dead. There are two options for the second reading. The one to the Corinthians is confusing about unleavened bread and cleaning out, but the other one is from Colossians and says
Brothers and sisters:
If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.
For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ your life appears,
then you too will appear with him in glory.
That’s the goal, to appear with Him in glory! Amen!
In the gospel, Peter, the other disciple, and Mary of Magdala go to the tomb and find it empty! What a sight to see! No more ugliness! Of course, they didn’t know what happened to Jesus until on the road to Emmaus.
