Two sets of readings today because it is Thanksgiving Day in the United States.

First reading from Revelation: an angel has a millstone throwing it into the sea. It was supposed to represent the end to the idolatry in Rome. There would be destruction and ruin. From my commentary: “The passage ends with the fourth of the seven beatitudes scattered through the book:

Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.*

We too believe that evil will never have the last word. Truth and goodness and justice will eventually prevail. Let us pray that we may so live our lives that we, too, will receive that invitation to join the wedding feast of the Lamb. All our lives are geared to making sure we do get that invitation. Nothing else matters!”

In the gospel, Jesus still warned of the end of times. We need to prepare. This reading is for the preparation for the end of the liturgical year. Let us end on a high note of Thanksgiving and praise. Amen!

Psalm 118:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
