January 15, 2024 2nd week OT
OT means ordinary time. Today the first reading is Saul talking to Samuel after disobeying God and keeping spoils from the battle. In the Old Testament there is a recurring theme of God telling us what He wants, our defiance of those requests to even sinning against God, and then He punishes or takes away what He has given. This is very hard for people to say He is a loving God, but I say, just turn to Jesus. He is love! In the gospel, people ask Jesus why his disciples do not fast. Jesus says there will come a day when they won’t have Him and they will fast. Don’t put new wine in old wine skins. I don’t get that reference, but in my reflections they say to make things new. Going back to Saul, he gets more chances. God is forgiving. Make things new again!
